Police: Man with machete shot, wounded by US marshals

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say federal marshals shot and wounded a man armed with a machete in northeast Philadelphia.

A police spokesman says the U.S. marshals were trying to stop a man they had been watching in the Wissinoming section just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when he got out of his vehicle with a machete.

Police say the man refused to drop the weapon and was hit with a stun gun, then ran into a rear alley, and the marshals then fired, hitting him several times. He was reported in stable condition with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and back.

Authorities haven’t said why the man was being followed by federal marshals.
