White Sox 4, Blue Jays 1, 41/2 innings, rain

CHICAGO

Lucas Giolito threw five solid innings, Leury Garcia homered and Chicago beat Toronto in a game stopped after a three-hour rain delay. Giolito (5-1) struck out the side in the top of the fifth before play was halted. Yonder Alonso had two singles and two RBIs for the White Sox, who have won five of seven. Ryan Feierabend (0-1) allowed four runs and seven hits in four innings for Toronto in his first start in the majors since 2008. He struck out two and walked one.

Athletics 4, Tigers 1

DETROIT

Daniel Mengden pitched seven impressive innings and Nick Hundley and Chad Pinder homered to lift Oakland to its 15th straight win over Detroit. Mengden (1-1) allowed a run and three hits. Blake Treinen pitched the ninth for his seventh save. Matthew Boyd (4-4) allowed four runs in 61/3 innings for the Tigers. Boyd struck out eight. Jurickson Profar hit an RBI double in the fifth to make it 3-1, and Pinder added a solo homer in the seventh.

Rays 2, Yankees 1, 11 innings

NEW YORK

Austin Meadows homered off Luis Cessa in the 11th inning, and Tampa Bay rallied to beat New York and regain the AL East lead after dropping behind New York for a day. New York’s bullpen retired 13 in a row before Meadows lined a slider from Cessa (0-1) into the right-field seats for his ninth homer. Brandon Lowe tied the score in the seventh, homering on the second pitch from reliever Tommy Kahnle. Hunter Wood (1-0) pitched a perfect 11th.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Nationals 5, Cubs 2

WASHINGTON

Cubs manager Joe Maddon protested Chicago’s loss to the Nationals after twice coming out to complain about Washington closer Sean Doolittle’s delivery. After eight solid innings by Stephen Strasburg, Doolittle pitched the ninth for his eighth save in nine chances. Maddon appeared to suggest the left-handed Doolittle was tapping his right toe on the ground before coming to the plate. Strasburg allowed two runs — one earned — and struck out seven without a walk. Juan Soto had two hits and drove in three for Washington. David Bote homered in the sixth for the Cubs. Chicago’s Jon Lester a span totaling 192/3 innings, allowed five runs and 10 hits in 41/3 innings.

Marlins 2, Mets 0

MIAMI

Miami starter Pablo Lopez gave up a double on his first pitch, then combined with the Marlins’ bullpen to hold New York hitless the rest of the way in a win. Jeff McNeil hit a first-pitch double for the Mets. Lopez (3-5) pitched seven inning and tied a career high with seven strikeouts. Adam Conley finished for his second save. Jon Berti hit his second home run of the season and Brian Anderson knocked in the other run for the Marlins. Steven Matz (3-3) allowed two runs and five hits in 32/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Reds 4, Dodgers 0

CINCINNATI

Jesse Winker’s homer ended LA’s stretch of scoreless pitching, and Yasiel Puig singled home a pair of runs, leading Cincinnati to a victory that snapped the Dodgers’ four-game winning streak. Tyler Mahle (1-5) allowed four singles and a pair of walks in five innings. Winker’s solo homer in the second inning off Walker Buehler (4-1) ended the Dodgers’ streak of 23 scoreless innings. Cody Bellinger had a pair of singles.

Phillies 2, Rockies 1

PHILADELPHIA

Bryce Harper homered over the batter’s eye in center field, Aaron Nola tied his career high with 12 strikeouts while pitching into the seventh inning and Philadelphia defeated Colorado. Tony Wolters had an RBI triple for Colorado. Nola (4-0) allowed one run on eight hits while walking one. Hector Neris pitched two perfect innings for his seventh save. Antonio Senzatela (3-3) gave up five hits and four walks in five innings.

INTERLEAGUE

Cardinals 8, Rangers 2

ARLINGTON, Texas

Paul DeJong homered and had a season-high four RBIs, Matt Carpenter hit an opposite-field double off the top of the outfield wall and St. Louis beat Texas. Cardinals rookie right-hander Dakota Hudson (3-3) struck out five and allowed two runs over six innings. Ariel Jurado (1-2) had Carpenter picked off after the overturned call in the fifth, but second baseman Rougned Odor dropped the ball for an error.
