Boardman goys track team falls to Austintown Fitch

The Boardman High School boys track team ended the 2019 regular season 8-1, and 4-1 in the AAC, after falling to the Fitch Falcons 74-63 on April 30.

The Spartans opened the meet with a first place finish in the 4x800 relay with the team of senior Payton Torres, junior Mitchel Dunham and sophomores Jonah Bacho and Justin Maloney. The next event, the 110 meter hurdles, junior Brian Yauger placed second. In the 1600 meter run, Dunham placed first and sophomore Frank Bero was second. The 4x100 relay team of seniors Josh Rodriguez and Zach Hillard, sophomore Dawaylon Pritchard and freshman DJ Evans placed first. Sophomore Cristian Ortiz placed third in the 400. Yauger placed first in the 300 meter hurdles. The 200 meter dash saw junior Isaiah Suarez finish third. The next event was the 3200 meter run which was won by junior River Flatley with sophomore Beau Gorby in third. The 4x400 meter relay team of Suarez, Torres, Ortiz and Yauger placed first.

“We really had some great performances today,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “Fitch is still an excellent team, but we are pretty solid too.”

In the field events, junior Dave Merdich placed first in the shot put and senior Nikitas Missos was second. Sophomore Ted Anzevino was first in the pole vault and sophomore Sam Cammack was second.
