UPDATE | Look here for details on the downtown power outage


4:10 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Children's Services Public Information Officer Jennifer Kollar reported her downtown office has regained power.

However, Kollar said anyone needing to contact children's services should continue to call 2-1-1.

3:45 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Children's Services Public Information Officer Jennifer Kollar reported her downtown office is also without power right now and that outage has interrupted phone service.

3:36 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The power went out at 2:36 p.m. today when a power line went down, said Chris Eck, a FirstEnergy spokesman. The cause of the outage hasn't been determined.

It impacted much of downtown with 9,800 customers initially losing power. As of about 3:30 p.m., 5,100 customers were still without power, Eck said.

Power is expected to be restored by 6 p.m., he said.

3:19 p.m.

FirstEnergy reported that more than 3,000 customers around downtown Youngstown were without power this afternoon.

Traffic lights are out at the intersection on Market and Boardman streets as well as Phelps and Federal streets. The power outage also caused elevators to stall on buildings on Phelps.

FirstEnergy anticipates power will be restored by 5:30 p.m. A cause for the outage is not currently known.
