Diane Sauer to discuss career

Diane Sauer, owner of an automobile dealership in Warren, will discuss her career in a lecture at 10 a.m. May 18 in the meeting room of Kravitz Deli, 3135 Belmont Ave.

Admission to the lecture, sponsored by the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society, is $6 ($5 for society members). The event will include a raffle and music by Dolores DePietro. Reservations are requested; call society president Richard Scarsella at 330-726-8277.

Sauer is one of a small number of women who own an auto dealership.

Born and raised in Coldwater, Ohio, she earned a degree in business administration from Ohio State University.

She began working in the accounting department at Martin Chevrolet in 1976, was promoted to office manager in 1977 and to general manager in 1983.

In 1993, Sauer signed an agreement to purchase the dealership over a 10-year period.

The following year, she became a franchised Chevrolet dealer. In 2003, she changed the name of the dealership to Diane Sauer Chevrolet.

Her awards include the 1997 Fisher College of Business OSU Pacesetter Award, the 1999 Athena Award of the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce, the 1999 Distinguished Rotarian Award and the 2003 Governor’s Award of Excellence.

Sauer was the first female president of the Rotary Club of Warren, elected in 1997.

She has held leadership positions with the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, United Way of Trumbull County, Ohio Automobile Dealers Association, Youngtown Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce, Diocese of Youngstown Foundation, Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and One Hundred for the Future of Trumbull County. Sauer is married to Kurt Sauer and has two children.
