The Michael Kusalaba library hosted a robot building event on April 18.
Librarian Sam Schneider organized the event for children grades first through fourth.
“I am very interested in technology so it’s great to put on programs that allow younger children to get involved in it,” Schneider said.
The library provided six kits to build a WeDo 2.0 Lego Robots, according to Schneider.
“The robot can go through an earthquake simulation, so it’s really cool to watch what happens,” she said.
Children were able to follow the instructions provided by the kits to build the robot.
Schneider assisted in building the robots and answered any questions community members had.
Each kit contains a buildable and programmable robot that children were allowed to explore.
The kits come with a device that allows you to control the robots motions and program it to do certain functions.
“It’s a really interesting tool that we use throughout the libraries,” Schneider said. “It’s actually really cool to use.”
She explained that it is important to encourage interest in STEM for students when they are young due to the ever changing nature of the field.
“Science when I was younger and science today are totally different,” Schneider said. “Who knows what there will be tomorrow.”
