WARREN

The Warren Philharmonic Orchestra’s 54th season will include two concerts, which will celebrate Halloween and spring.

The first performance, titled “Magic Spells,” will be Oct. 6. It will include Abu Hassan Overture by Carl Maria von Weber; Symphony in D Major by C.P.E. Bach; “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Paul Dukas; “Witches Music” from Macbeth by Verdi; “Night on Bald Mountain” by Mussorgsky; and “Upbeat!” by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich.

Special guest soloists will accompany the orchestra at this concert, and the 2019-20 Art in Music Contest prizewinners will be recognized.

The second performance, “Paris in Spring,” will be April 30. The program will include Paris Symphony No. 31 by Mozart, “Pulse” by Margaret Brouwer; Prelude a l’apres-midi d’un faune and Fetes from Nocturnes by Debussy, and The Firebird Suite by Stravinsky.

Both concerts will begin at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Avenue NW, and will be conducted by Susan Davenny Wyner.

Season subscriptions are now available. The price is $50 ($45 for senior citizens and $15 for students; children 12 and under are admitted free with an accompanying adult). Each subscriber will receive a ticket to both concerts as well as one free ticket to bring a friend to either concert. The three tickets can be used for either or both concerts.

For information or to subscribe, go to warrenphilharmonic.org, or call the WPO office at 330-399-3606.

Single performance tickets will be sold at the door.

The Warren Philharmonic Orchestra is composed of 50 of the area’s finest professional musicians.

In addition to its concerts for the public, the orchestra has performed free school concerts for thousands of area school children.

Its Strings of Joy program provides free violin lessons to selected students in grades three through seven from Trumbull County schools.

The orchestra’s unique Art in Music Contest asks students to interpret – in a visual form – the music they hear at each year’s student concert.

The winners receive prizes and are recognized at the October concert.
