CLASSES

USA Dance will offer West Coast Swing lessons and general dancing May 19 at the Orthodox Center, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown. Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Gene Hammond will be the caller, and Frankie Hammond will cue line dances. The theme will be “1970s Disco.” This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Monday Night Writers will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. May 20 in the Small Meeting Room at the Canfield library, 43 W Main St. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend. Led by professional writer Nancy Christie, author of “Traveling Left Of Center And Other Stories,” “The Gifts of Change” and “Rut-Busting Book for Writers,” this two-hour session will offer an opportunity for members to get group feedback on works-in-progress. Newcomers of Mahoning Valley will host its last luncheon of the fiscal year at 11:30 a.m. May 22 at Johnny’s Restaurant. The installation of officers for 2019-20 will be held along with discussion of possible programs starting in September. The corrected date for the movie group is Wednesday; the needlework group will meet Tuesday; and the birthday group will meet May 21. The next book club meeting will be June 6, and “Manhattan Beach” will be discussed. Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild will sponsor a one-day bus trip to Ohio Amish Country on July 25. The group will be shop, have lunch in Sugar Creek and also see the play, “Stolen,” at the Ohio Star Theater. The bus will pick up attendees at 7 a.m. from the old Niles Super Kmart, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, and at 7:30 from the Austintown Plaza, 6000 Mahoning Ave. Cost is $89 for members and $100 for nonmembers. Stitches in Time, a get-together opportunity at the Salem library, 821 E. Trumbull County Travel Club has the following trips planned: June 19 to Cleveland for “Let’s Explore Ohio”day trip; Aug. 14 for the oddities of the Canton area; Sept. 9-17 vacation to South Dakota; and Nov. 2 day outing for a ginger bread tour in Pennsylvania. The club is open to anyone over the age of 21. There are no dues, and meetings are twice a year at various locations within the area. One does not have to be a resident of Trumbull County to travel with the club. Warren Women’s Club will host its 57th annual Rose Luncheon on June 5 at DiLucia’s Banquet Center, 2610 Elm Road NE. There will be basket and special raffles. Youngstown Area Federation of Women’s Clubs Inc. will host its annual awards luncheon at noon Wednesday at Tippecanoe Country Club. This year’s recipient of the Community Service Award is Ralph “Skip” Barone, manager/operator of Our Community Kitchen, located at 551 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Also being announced will be the YAFWC’s annual $2,000 scholarship, which is awarded to a non-traditional female student in her junior year at Youngstown State University. The Club Woman of the Year award will be presented to a member who has helped the club reach its goals. Nonmembers are welcome.
