ASMV announces summer camp
YOUNGSTOWN
The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley is accepting applications for its annual summer day camp. Camp F.R.I.E.N.D. will take place July 15-19 and Aug. 12-16 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day at the Central YMCA downtown. The first program of its kind in the Mahoning Valley, this camp is dedicated to offering an inclusive day camp experience for students with special needs and their neurotypical friends. A unique feature of Camp F.R.I.E.N.D. is the extremely low student-to-counselor ratio which allows staff to serve the varied and sometimes intense needs of children and teens on the autism spectrum. Camp F.R.I.E.N.D.’s model of daily activities are structured around social skill building themes to provide evidence-based instructional opportunities in a fun setting. This, plus traditional summer camp activities like swimming, sports and crafts supported by an autism-qualified staff, provide a supportive environment while ensuring an equitable experience. Cost is $150 per student per week and financial-based scholarships are available. Registration forms can be downloaded at autismmv.org or mailed by request by calling 330-333-9609.
