EAST PALESTINE

Cooper Vance collected four hits, including two doubles while collecting a save on the mound for East Palestine (12-7-1, 7-5-1 Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference). Since making his varsity debut on April 16, the freshman has yet to give up an earned run while earning a 3-0 record. Jordan Fristik had three hits and two RBIs and Dalton Vance had two hits for two RBIs. Justin Hooley picked up the win for the Bulldogs. Parker Hydrick doubled for United.

Western Reserve 5, Mathews 1

BERLIN CENTER

Nick Niemi had a two RBI single to put Western Reserve (12-7) ahead in the bottom of the sixth after the game was tied at one. Niemi was also the winning pitcher. Ryan Slaven added two hits and Jake Pappagallo also drove in two runs for the Blue Devils. Jake Miller led Mathews (14-2) with two hits.

West Branch 10, St. Thomas Aquinas 0

LOUISVILLE

Mason Walker pitched five innings, striking out six and allowing just one hit to get the win for West Branch (14-9). Nick Wilson had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors. Brock Hillyer tripled and drove in two runs and Cole Bates had two hits for West Branch.

SOFTBALL

Champion 2, Louisville 1

LOUISVILLE

Allison Smith fired a two-hitter for Champion (18-2), striking out 16 and walking two. Emma Gumont hit a double and had two RBIs and Sophie Howell had two hits. Louisville’s Kaycee Ollis hit a double and Sarah Cantley struck out nine while taking the loss.

Cardinal Mooney 4, South Range 1

BEAVER TOWNSHIP

Conchetta Rinaldi homered twice and drove in three runs to lead Mooney (17-4). Carley Francis added two hits for the Cardinals. Bree Kohler struck out three for South Range (16-6).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Canfield 14, Conneaut 9

CANFIELD

Shianne Donnarummo, Sarah Grohovsky, and Isabella Kelty had three goals each for Canfield (11-3). Emily Wilson added two goals for the Cardinals. Tara Santoro, Athena Poulas and Mia Malvasi also had a goal for Canifeld.

YOUNGSTOWN

Emillie Franco scored two goals for Poland. Allyson Andrews had a goal and three ground balls. Kylee Hissner made 11 saves and had an interception in goal for the Bulldogs. Abbi Aey made seven saves for Poland.

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Springfield senior Ben Chaszeyka will continue his academic and athletic careers at the University of Mount Union in Alliance. He will participate in football and track and field.
