‘Idora Park Experience’

The Idora Park Experience will come to the Struthers Historical Society Museum, 50 Terrace St., at 1 p.m. Sunday. The museum will be open to the public and tours will be given.

On June 2, author Roslyn Torella will do a book-signing at the musem of her book about Lowellville, “Murders, Mayhem and More!” The Struthers Historical Society strives to tell the history of Struthers and the surrounding area. Society to host workshop series

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will launch a new workshop series. Learn from the pros with these in-depth workshops as MVHS staff members discuss the tools and techniques they use in archival research and collections care.

The first workshop, “Exploring Your Roots: An Introduction to Genealogy,” is geared for the beginning genealogist, although experienced researchers will find helpful information and tips.

The workshop will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tyler History Center, 325 West Federal St. In addition to the class, attendees can schedule a two-hour private session with MVHS staff and subsequent visits to the archives library.

Plant and care for ‘Pizza Pots’

The Salem Public Library’s upcoming “Go Wild in the Park” program will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday in Pavilion No. 9 at the Waterworth Memorial Park. Adults will learn to plant and care for a “Pizza Pot” container with the following plants: tomato, green pepper, oregano and basil. All materials will be provided and Ellen Speicher will be the instructor.

Annual plant sale planned at Fellows

YOUNGSTOWN

Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., will host its annual plant sale, which is open to the public, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and May 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A wide variety of annuals, hanging baskets, perennials, herbs, dahlias, woody plants, summer bulbs, tropicals, fruits, and non-GMO fruits and vegetables will be available to purchase.

A new addition to this year’s sale will be several types of succulents. Horticulture experts will be present to answer questions. Proceeds benefit Fellows Riverside Gardens. The event is made possible by the volunteers in support of this public garden.

Heldman Golf event set for May 25

COITSVILLE

The second annual “Bub” Heldman Memorial Golf Outing fundraiser will take place May 25 at Bedford Trails Golf Course, 713 Bedford Road, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Proceeds benefit the Otis R. Heldman Sr. and Jr. Struthers High School Scholar-Athlete Award and $8,000 scholarship. The recipient will be announced this month and recognized at the Honors Assembly at SHS.

The outing will include 18 holes of golf, cart, breakfast, lunch, dinner, prizes, 50-50 raffle and more. Registration fee is $75 per person or $300 for a team of four. Dinner only is $25 per person.

For nongolfers, there will be an opportunity to remember a loved one or a Struthers citizen with a $50 tribute recognition whose name will be posted on a tribute sign at one of the tee-off boxes.

Corporate sponsorships are available for $400 and include a four-man team entry, sponsor sign and scholarship contributor. Donations are welcome. Gift baskets can be dropped off at the golf course May 24 or picked up by calling 330-758-6582.
