AMERICAN LEAGUE
Red Sox 5, Athletics 1
BOSTON
Rick Porcello pitched eight shutout innings and struck out a season-high eight as the Boston Red Sox beat the Oakland Athletics. Porcello (2-3) allowed only two hits and walked two while winning his second straight start. He also became the first starter to go past the seventh inning for the World Series champion Red Sox in a rough opening month of the season. Mookie Betts and Mitch Moreland homered for Boston and the Red Sox won for the fourth time in six games.
Astros 11, Twins 0
MINNEAPOLIS
Gerrit Cole allowed one hit in seven innings, and the Houston Astros backed him with three homers in a victory over the Minnesota Twins. Cole (2-4) gave up his only hit in the sixth inning while the Astros broke out offensively to win a meeting of division leaders and snap the Twins’ four-game winning streak. Cole struck out 11 and walked three, including the first two batters of the game. It was his fourth game with double figure strikeouts this season. Max Kepler had the only hit off Cole, a double off the right-field wall with one out in the sixth. Springer had an RBI double in the third and homered on the first pitch of the fifth. Marisnick and Bregman homered as part of a four-run sixth. Marisnick hit a two-run shot to chase Michael Pineda (2-2), who allowed five runs on a season-high nine hits in five-plus innings. The Twins, who have hit 50 home runs in their first 27 games, finished with three hits, two by Kepler.
NATIONAL LEAGUE

ATLANTA
Franmil Reyes homered twice and drove in three runs, Eric Hosmer also went deep and rookie Chris Paddack turned in another impressive start, leading the San Diego Padres to a victory over the Atlanta Braves. Reyes homered on the 11th pitch of the game, followed by another solo shot in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie. Two batters later, Hosmer drove one out to give the Padres a bit of insurance. Paddack (2-1) went six innings, surrendering only a two-out, two-run single to Matt Joyce in the second. The right-hander gave up just four hits, walked one and struck out five.
Cardinals 3, Nationals 2
WASHINGTON
Adam Wainwright pitched neatly into the seventh inning, helping himself by kicking the ball over to first for a key out, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Washington Nationals. Harrison Bader drove in two runs and Kolten Wong had two hits as NL Central-leading St. Louis earned its fourth straight victory. It was the Cardinals’ 18th win in April, matching a team record set in 2008. Wainwright (3-2) allowed two runs and six hits in 61/3 innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Mets 4, Reds 3, 10 innings
NEW YORK
Rookie Pete Alonso hit a game-winning sacrifice fly off Cincinnati closer Raisel Iglesias in the 10th inning, and the New York Mets rebounded from a blown ninth-inning lead to beat the Cincinnati Reds. J.D. Davis, who entered in a ninth-inning double switch, doubled to left-center to cap a 10-pitch at-bat leading off the 10th against Iglesias (1-4). Jeff McNeil singled sharply to put runners at the corners with his fourth hit of the game. With the infield in and outfield shallow, Alonso hit a fly to the warning track in right.
Brewers 4, Rockies 3
MILWAUKEE
Jesus Aguilar homered again and the Milwaukee Brewers, held without a runner for five innings, broke through late and beat the Colorado Rockies. Jhoulys Chacin pitched six scoreless innings for the Brewers, who have won the first two in the four-game series. Milwaukee has won 12 of its last 14 against Colorado, including a sweep in last season’s NL Division Series. The Brewers again played without NL MVP Christian Yelich, who sat out with lower back soreness for the second straight game.
INTERLEAGUE
Tigers 3, Phillies 1
PHILADELPHIA
Miguel Cabrera had an RBI single and Niko Goodrum added a two-run homer to lift the Detroit Tigers to a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Spencer Turnbull pitched six strong innings as the Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak while rebounding from Sunday’s 4-1 loss at the White Sox in which they tied a major-league record for a nine-inning game with 20 strikeouts. The NL East-leading Phillies managed just four hits while falling to 11-6 at home. Turnbull (2-2) was a late replacement for scheduled starter Tyson Ross, who was placed on the paternity list. The rookie allowed one run and three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Shane Greene pitched a scoreless ninth for his 12th save in as many chances.
