Music Teachers Association to host concert

The Youngstown Music Teachers Association will host a High School Gala Concert at 2:30 p.m. April 7 in Ford Family Recital Hall of DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 W. Federal St. The performance is free and open to the public. The event will feature piano and violin students playing works by composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, Liszt and more. Caroline Oltmanns, concert pianist and professor of piano at Youngstown State University, will provide remarks about the pieces throughout the program.

The YMTA High School Senior Awards also will be presented. A reception will follow the performance, and guests will have the opportunity to meet the performers. Students performing include Jessica Lee, Liam Roberts, Sammy McDonald, Andrew Theophanous, Declan O’Hara, Allison Morris, Catherine Esper, Josh Greenbaum, Luke Martinucci, Oliver Kovass , Mareena Lough, Scott Cross, Grace Li, Anthony Meranto, Armand Giovannone, Elena Economous, Phillip Naples, Kate Li, Lexi Rice, Lydia Noble and Joel Kreuzwieser. Teachers represented will be Gina Bagnoli, Sean Baran, Rick Barber, Diane Debiec, Fanny DiDomenico, Alison Morris, Jason Volovar and Diane Yazvac.

The YMTA was organized in 1933 and provides performance opportunities for music students in the area. The association hosts recital and master classes in venues and festivals such as The Butler Institute of American Art, Bliss Recital Hall, YSU Summer Festival of the Arts and the Northeast Ohio Keyboard Festival.

In addition, the YMTA awards scholarships annually to high-school seniors and YSU music majors.

The organization invites teachers of all instruments and ages to join.
