The Canfield High School wrestling team sent six wrestlers to the 2019 OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus March 7-9.
In keeping with the Canfield High School tradition to honor athletes who have earned the right to compete at the state level, the school had a walk through for the six state wrestling qualifiers on March 6.
Team members included returning state champion senior Tyler Stein, senior David Reinhart, senior Ben Cutrer, junior Nick Crawford, junior Anthony D’Alesio and sophomore Nick Barber. Sophomore Ethan Fletcher will serve as an alternate and junior Richie Hofus will serve as a drill partner.
The Canfield High School wrestling team is coached by Head Coach Steve Pitts, who is assisted by Dave Crawford, Derick Fletcher, Stan Socha, Jim Hideg, Dean Conley, Steve Demaiolo and Rich Donadee.
Prior to the walk through, CHS Principal Michael Moldovan addressed the student body.
“Good afternoon. We have the great pleasure to continue our Canfield High School tradition of a walk through to honor student athletes as we send them to the state wrestling competition. We have six members of our wrestling team who have qualified for the individual competition and are traveling to Columbus to compete in the State Wrestling Tournament and we would like to recognize their great accomplishment. We are very excited about our wrestlers competing this weekend. Good luck gentlemen, let’s bring home some state championships. So step out into the hallways to congratulate them and and show them your support,” Moldovan said.
As the wrestling team members walked through the school, they were honored by, and wished good luck by, their classmates, faculty, staff and family members. The state-bound wrestlers were joined by Big Red, the Canfield High School mascot.
