Canfield High School senior Dominic DeRamo partnered with Project MKC (formerly Making Kids Count) to complete his National Honor Society community service project. DeRamo made blankets and donated books to be included in the organization’s comfort kits.

“I was inspired to help a local organization and I wanted to help Project MKC with a couple of aspects. I wanted to make the no-sew blankets for the comfort kits which are given to area children who are transitioning to foster care. And they also mentioned they were in need of young adult novels for the children, so I also held a book drive to collect these novels to be included in the comfort kits. I will be able to make 24 blankets and donate 130 books,” DeRamo said.

DeRamo said Project MKC provided the materials to make the blankets, and he invited his fellow students to help make them on Feb. 22.

“The materials to make the blankets were donated to Project MKC and they gave me those materials to make the blankets and then return them when I was done. I wanted to make something fun and simple and to take time out of my day to make them for the kids who need them. I just want to do my best to make these blankets for the children. I have some friends helping me today and I really appreciate their help,” DeRamo said.

DeRamo said working with Project MKC has been a rewarding experience.

“Project MKC is a welcoming, passionate, great organization. They eased the process to help give back to people in need. This project was a cooperative effort and I am excited to see Project MKC get the resources they need to help other people. It is the perfect organization for area high schools to gather supplies for and help area children in need,” DeRamo said.
