The Friends of the Library hosted a fundraiser for the Springfield Library Capital Campaign March 24 at the Poland library.
Chairman of the event Judy Kovalan said all proceeds go into the Springfield library, which has immense community support.
“When the library builds a building like that and the community is very supportive they in a sense loan the money to the community so then the community pays it back into the fund,” Kovalan said.
The Springfield library, which has been opened for 13 years, is still hosting fund raisers annually for the campaign.
“The Springfield library has strong community support and we are very proud of our library,” Kovalan said, “It may be small but it is very useful.”
60 people attended the event where the Friends of the Library hosted a 50/50 raffle and a basket raffle with 29 prizes.
Local author and YSU alumnus Sarah Dickey spoke during the event.
She also sold copies of her books, “Sweetly Seeking” and “Ode to Love.”
“I am just very grateful to be out here at the library speaking to these women and enjoying the day,” Dickey said.
850 Blues, a women’s boutique in Boardman, was also present during the event.
The boutique sold items during the event, donating 10 percent of all proceeds to the fund.
850 Blues also hosted a fashion show for community members in attendence.
“It’s a very fun idea and we love coming out and being part of the community,” said boutique owner Kristyn Mancina.
Lunch during the event was catered by Caf Augustine, which was comprised of chicken salad croissant sandwiches and creamy tomato basil soup.
“It’s so great to have out support of Caf Augustine and 850 blues and the community,” said Deborah Liptak, the library’s Development Director, “We really appreciate it and everyone coming out.”
