The red-hot Youngstown State softball team extended its winning streak to eight with a doubleheader sweep of St. Bonaventure on Wednesday at the Covelli Sports Complex.

The Penguins (12-17) won the opener 1-0 and the nightcap 5-1.

Freshman Addy Jarvis tossed a three-hit, complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts to pick up her seventh win of the season and fourth shutout of the year.

Junior Elizabeth Birkbeck’s single to left-center field in the bottom of the fourth plated Maddi Lusk, who went 2-for-3, with the game’s only run.

The Bonnies (2-16) scored an unearned run in the third to take a 1-0 lead in game two.

But Yazmine Romero and Grace Cea each singled to put runners on the corners with one out and Lusk crushed her fourth home run over the left-center field fence to give the Penguins a 3-1 lead. Tatum Christy followed with a double and scored on a two-out double by Alex DeLeon.

The Penguins added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth when Sarah Bader scored on an error.

Elle Buffenbarger struck out six in four-plus innings of work to register her fourth win. Lusk worked the last four innings for a save.

YSU visits IUPUI in a three-game Horizon League series Friday and Saturday.
