YSU golf takes 16th in Virginia tourney


WILLIAMSBURG, VA.

The Youngstown State men’s golf team concluded play the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at Golden Horseshoe Country Club on Tuesday with a 16th-place finish.

The Penguins posted a three-round team total of 927 to finish 16th out of 21 teams in their first three-day event of the season. YSU recorded rounds of 307 and 306 over the first two rounds on Sunday and Monday before carding a 314 in Tuesday’s final session.

Kevin Scherr led the Penguins with a three-round 227 (73-75-79) on the par-71 course to finish tied for 37th. The sophomore has now been YSU’s top finisher a team-high five times this season.

Playing as an individual, Ken Keller turned in a three-round 232 (76-74-82). Zack Ford carded a 233 (76-76-81). C.J. Hughes (78-79-77) and Jason McQuown (80-76-78) each finished a stroke behind Ford with three-round totals of 234. Bryan Kordupel posted a three-round 243 (83-80-80).
