Northern Kentucky athletes allege abuse

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY.

Former Northern Kentucky women’s basketball player Taryn Taugher published a blog post on Monday accusing coach Camryn Whitaker of emotional abuse.

Taugher wrote on the blog site The Odyssey that Whitaker called a couch in her office “the crying couch” where she would verbally abuse players in one-on-one meetings.

She also alleged that Whitaker ordered her teammates to not sit with a player on the bus or when the team was having meals under threats of cutting their playing time.

Taugher’s teammates, Kasey Uetrcht and Reece Mungar, corroborated the accusations on Tuesday to a local TV station.

The university released a statement saying it was taking the complaints seriously. Whitaker is 29-62 during her three seasons coaching the Norse.

Northern Kentucky is a member of the Horizon League and is a conference opponent of Youngstown State.
