Mayors group supports DeWine’s plan for gas-tax increase

A bipartisan group of mayors from Ohio’s largest cities has endorsed Gov. Mike DeWine’s proposal for an 18-cents-per-gallon increase in the state’s gas tax to maintain roads and bridges.

Members of the Ohio Mayors Alliance announced support for the Republican governor’s plan at their meeting Tuesday in Columbus, where they urged state lawmakers to “get close” to DeWine’s proposal. The Ohio House proposed increases of 10.7 cents a gallon for gas and 20 cents a gallon for diesel fuel. The state Senate wants to increase the current tax of 28 cents a gallon by only 6 cents.
