‘Popo’ Salinas scores knockout vs. Cupul

ATLANTIC CITY

Aldejandro “Popo” Salinas of Campbell made a successful return to the ring Saturday with a fifth-round knockout of Pablo Cupul at Rising Star Promotions at the Showboat Hotel and Casino.

“‘Popo’ was as strong as ever for being out of the ring 364 days,” trainer Jack Loew said after the fight. “We’ll look to get him back in the gym within a week and then get ready for his next show, which will probably be in May some time.”

Salinas (10-2) recording his ninth KO while Cupul (10-29) is 4-13 against opponents with two losses or less.

“I took my time with him in the first two rounds and when I felt that he couldn’t take my power, I just kicked it up a notch and was able to finish him off in five rounds,” Salinas said.
