Zallow, Harden participate in Pro Day
Youngstown State track and field stars Chad Zallow and Collin Harden participated in YSU’s Pro Day on Friday.
Harden was a defensive back at Girard and Zallow was a wide receiver and defensive back at Warren JFK.
Zallow’s best time was 4.29 in the 40-yard dash while Harden ran a 4.37. Zallow posted a 39-inch vertical and Harden had a 37-inch attempt. Both recorded a 10-4 in the broad jump.
Both track athletes would have finished in the top 10 at the NFL Combine in the 40. Zallow would have tied Mississippi safety Zedrick Woods for the top time.
Running back Tevin McCaster ran a 4.71 in the 40 and did 12 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
Offensive lineman Charles Baldwin put up a team-best 33 reps on the bench and finished with a time of 4.60 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle. Center Vitas Hrynkiewicz did 25 reps on the bench and posted a 8-11 in the broad jump
Report: Penguins to play Kentucky in 2026
According to a published report, the Youngstown State football team will play at Kentucky in 2026.
WFMJ Channel 21, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, also reported a game between YSU and Eastern Kentucky in 2020.
Members of the YSU athletic department did not confirm either report.
The potential YSU-Kentucky game could have former Cardinal Mooney graduates Bo Pelini and Mark Stoops meet as head coaches.
“Anytime you play a team like a [Southeastern Conference] football team like that, it’s good for our program,” Pelini said. “I’m glad Kentucky agreed to play us.”
St. Surin injures right leg late in practice
Youngstown State slot receiver Samuel St. Surin injured his right leg during the final 30 minutes of practice on Friday at the Watson and Tressel Training Site.
St. Surin, a senior, came down awkwardly during a passing drill with defensive backs. He landed on the edge of the practice turf and the track surface.
He spent the rest of practice with the medical staff. He was able to put light weight on the leg and had it wrapped.
St. Surin caught 21 passes last season, second most on the team. He had 299 yards receiving and a touchdown.
