Camp Stambaugh event being planned

CANFIELD

Great Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America, serving Scouting families in Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Summit, Trumbull and Northern Wayne counties, will plan for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Boy Scout Camp Stambaugh, 3712 Leffingwell Road, from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. In 1919, upon the passing of Henry H. Stambaugh of the Stambaugh-Thompson Co., the Stambaugh family farm was given to the local Boy Scout organization for the purpose of providing a permanent home for the local Boy Scouts. Thus began the operations of Camp Stambaugh, which is one of the oldest continuously operating Boy Scout Camps in the state as well as the country. For almost a year and a half, planning has been going on to celebrate this fact and bring one of the largest Scouting events ever to be held at Camp Stambaugh. The actual celebration event is scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 20–22, and more than 3,000 Scouts and their families are expected to attend. The event will feature more than 40 activities for Scouts of all ages and will involve several community organizations. This meeting marks six months until the event and will include an overview of the entire anniversary program, a camp tour of event stations, open discussions, developing the district teams and building the Council Scouting Spirit. The Great Trail Council has been making improvements to the camp facilities, which include the re-opening of the lake, the installation of a new pool liner and the introduction of city water to the facility. Additional improvements are planned. For information, contact Mike Kupec at 330-519-3988.
