Canfield Village Middle School hosted its fourth annual Students Versus Staff Basketball Game on March 8.

In front of a packed gymnasium overflowing with students and parents, members of the seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls basketball teams took on members of the CVMS staff in a battle of the ages.

CVMS principal Judd Rubin welcomed everyone to the game.

“Good evening everybody. Welcome and thank you for coming to our fourth annual Students Versus Staff Basketball Game,” Rubin said.

The game consisted of five 10-minute ‘quarters.’ To start the game, the seventh-grade girls took on the staff for a running clock of 10 minutes, ending with the staff scoring 8 and the students scoring 9. Next, the seventh-grade boys took the court against the staff, and ended their time with a score of staff - 24, students - 22.

The eighth-grade girls then had their turn for 10 minutes of play, ending their time with a score of 47-39, with the staff coming out on top.

After a short intermission, the eighth-grade boys went on a run, but came up short at the end of their time with a score of 63-51.

To end the game, the eighth-grade girls and boys joined forces to battle the staff. After a hard fought contest, the CVMS staff came out on top of the competition with a final score of 92-68.

Concessions and a 50/50 raffle were also available for the fans.

“Our staff donated concessions for tonight and they are helping out in just about every aspect of the event, from selling and taking tickets, selling 50/50 tickets and volunteering at the concession stand to actually playing in the game. It is a whole building effort. Everyone in our building is doing their part and working together to make this event a success,” Rubin said.

All proceeds from the CVMS Students Versus Staff Basketball Game will go to the school for future expenses.
