The fourth-grade students of C.H. Campbell Elementary School, under the direction of music specialist Michael Fay, presented “Destination: America! An Evening of Art and Music” by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson on Feb. 11. Friends and family members gathered at the Canfield High School auditorium to enjoy music from around America, including rock and roll, country, Broadway and Motown.

The students began their program with “Destination: America!” and then moved onto “Hitsville, U.S.A.” The next song the students performed was “(That’s Why) They Call it Country,” with students line dancing.

The fourth number the students performed was “Go, Go, Go Guitars.” “All Aboard for Broadway” was next in the program.

The students then performed “It’s American as Rock N Roll.” The students closed their show with “Reprise: Destination: America!,” during which the students came out into the audience and sang in the aisles.

“Let’s give them one more round of applause. They did an awesome job. Also, the students’ amazing artwork from the first half of the school year is hung up around the auditorium and there is more in the cafeteria. Please be sure to check it out. On behalf of the fourth-graders, thank you for coming to our show tonight,” Fay said.

The students’ featured art work included, “Getting to Know You Paper Sculptures,” which the students used as a way to get to know each other at the beginning of the school year; “Japanese Cherry Blossom Paintings,” which focused on the profound influence Japanese culture has had on the American way of life; “The Coil Pottery Industry in Ohio,” which represented the evolution of the pottery industry in Ohio, and “Animal Collages,” which was a progressive, multi-step multimedia project that evolved as the students created.

C.H Campbell art teacher Diane Leonard organized the art portion of the evening.
