Former Streetsboro High School track star Dakari Carter will enroll at Youngstown State this fall and run for the Penguins after transferring from the University of Toledo.

YSU track and field head coach Brian Gorby announced Carter’s pending transfer on Tuesday.

Carter will enroll at YSU in the 2019 fall semester and has three years of eligibility beginning with the 2019-20 indoor season.

Carter spent the last two seasons playing football for the Rockets. In high school, Carter was three-time Division II state champion in the 100-meter dash. His personal-best time in the event was 10.50 seconds.

Carter was the fastest high school runner in Ohio during the 2015 and ’16 outdoor seasons.

Carter also competed in the 200 at Streetsboro and posted a personal best time of 21.36 seconds during his sophomore season. As a freshman, Carter finished third at the state meet.
