AUCTIONS
Angels for Animals Andrews Hall, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, will sponsor its dinner buffet and third annual live cake auction from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds will benefit the Feline Voucher Project. The event will include a basket raffle. The cake auction begins at 7 p.m. Menu includes glazed ham, pork loin, chicken, mashed potatoes, potato and cheese casserole, vegetables, salad bar, bread, dessert, beverages and vegetarian offerings. Cost is $13 for adults and $6 for children under 6.
Heartland Christian School, 28 Pittsburgh St., Columbiana, will host its 22nd annual benefit auction at 10 a.m. Saturday in the school gymnasium. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. There will be live, silent and basket auctions. Jim Kellner will be the auctioneer, and some items included will be vacation and hotel packages; theme park, event and attraction tickets; jewelry; gift cards; theater passes; and more. The Guatemala Missions team will host breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., in the school’s home economics room, to raise funds for their upcoming trip. Western Reserve High School PTO will host its sixth annual auction fundraiser at 6 p.m. April 5 at Western Reserve High School, 13850 Akron-Canfield Road, Berlin Center, in the cafetorium. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica Mothers of the Crucifix Society will host a bingo and card party at 3 p.m. Sunday in the social hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel Ave., Youngstown. Cost is $6, lunch included. There will be door prizes, a pot-of-gold and basket auction.
Hubbard St. Patrick Church, 357 N. Main St., Hubbard, will host super bingo from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $25 and tickets will be available at the door. Doors open at 5 p.m. and early birds start at 6:30. Entry includes 18 all-night cards and 12 special cards. Additional cards and pull-tab games will be available. USA Dance Chapter 2024 will host a Spring Fling dinner dance from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Kent State Student Center, 1075 Risman Drive. The event will include a 50-50 raffle with proceeds to benefit Dancing Classrooms of Northeast Ohio, a nonprofit organization that uses partnership dance instruction as a tool for helping children to break down social barriers, learn about honor and respect, treat others carefully, improve self-confidence, communication and cooperation, and accept others who are different. FESTIVALS
Boardman Park will host its 42nd annual Maple Syrup Festival and the Boardman Rotary Pancake Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and March 30 and 31. Park staff will be available at the Chester Pavilion to demonstrate the maple syrup process and Boy Scout Troop 60 will be available for questions about scouting. The Lariccia Center will be the site for the pancake breakfast. The Western Resrve Woodcarvers also will be in attendance and Troop 60 will host a basket raffle. Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host its 13th annual “Plant the Seed to Read” Children’s Book Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 27 at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek MetroParks. The event, “Reading’s My Superpower,” will host authors, illustrators, storytellers, readers, giveaways and more. The event is free and open to the community.

Buster’s Brigade and Falcon Animal Rescue will host a beer and wine taste from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Magic Tree in Boardman. Tickets are $20 for six beer or wine tastings. A portion of the food sales will benefit both agencies.
Niles Historical Society will host its annual spring banquet and fundraiser at 6 p.m. April 25 at Ciminero’s Banquet Centre, 123 N. Main St., Niles. Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley’s Child Advocacy Center and Mahoning County Children Services are inviting the community to the 2019 Pinwheels for Prevention event that will take place at 1 p.m. April 4 at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave., Boardman, in the Grand Ballroom. (Enter through the back, side door with white canopy). The event is to raise awareness of National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month and is free and open to the public. Sheriff Jerry Greene will be the keynote speaker. There will be an award presentation, a performance by the Boardman High School Jazz Ensemble 2 and light refreshments. Legacy Dog Rescue and F5RS - Frisky Ferrets, Fuzzies, & Feathered Friends will host its Picture with a Rescue Bunny event at Family Video, 4385 Kirk Road, Austintown from noon to 4 p.m. April 13. LIVE New Wilmington will sponsor The Tour de Donut, a bike ride which will take place June 8. Riders will depart from Memorial Field House at Westminster College. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and cost is $20 per rider, which includes a limited edition T-shirt. Various routes will include 10 miles, two 30-mile choices, and a hill challenge. Wilmington Township Civic League will host its 17th annual quilt show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Wilmington Township Mercer County, Municipal Building, 35 Auction Road, New Wilmington, Pa. A variety of locally crafted quilts will be on display. Featured this year will be Betsy Rust’s quilts. Rust, of Mercer, Pa., is a retired teacher and has been quilting for 10 years. She does her own piecing and is a member of the Sew ‘n So Quilt Guild. Admission is $2, and refreshments will be available. Some quilts included in the display will be available for sale. The quilters have a large Irish Chain Star quilt to be raffled at the annual garage sale May 18. Tickets may be purchased for $1 each or six tickets for $5. Brookfield Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Committee is sponsoring a trip to Rivers Casino Pittsburgh on March 30. The cost is $25 per person, which includes a $20 game voucher, $5 food voucher, and transportation. Proceeds from the trip benefit the Brookfield Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. A chartered bus will leave Brookfield High School at 9:15 a.m. and will depart the casino at 5:30 p.m. Participants must be 21 years or older and present valid, state-issued photo identification. To reserve a spot, an RSVP slip must be filled out and returned by Wednesday. The slips can be found on the trip’s flyer on the Brookfield Local Schools’ website and Facebook page.
Trumbull County Travel Club will sponsor a motor coach mini vacation to Holland, Mich., from May 7 to 9. Holland, located on Lake Macatawa, plants millions of blooming tulips which will greet members in this town named the “Best Small Town Festival” in the USA. Reflecting on the area’s Dutch heritage, Windmill Island is on the agenda as well as the DeKlomp Wooden Shoe & Delft Factory tour. There will be time to experience traditional Klompen, photograph the Big Red Lighthouse and sit in comfortable seats for the Volksparade. Two breakfasts and two dinners are included along with the Fiddle Fire Show and the Dazzle Dinner Theater. The Travel Club is open to any person who wishes to travel and make new friends.
