Red Wings sign former Phantom to entry-level deal


DETROIT

The Detroit Red Wings signed center Chase Pearson to a two-year entry-level contract on Monday. The contract will begin with the 2019-20 season.

Pearson will sign an amateur tryout contract with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins and will join the Griffins later this week.

Pearson, 21, has spent the last three seasons at the University of Maine, serving as captain as a sophomore and junior and totaling 78 points (37-41-78) in 107 games. In 2018-19, Pearson notched a collegiate career-high 29 points (16-13-29).

A fifth round pick of the Red Wings in (140th overall) 2015, Pearson spent two full seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms, logging 76 points (24-52-76) in 114 games from 2014-16.
