v “Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play,” 8 p.m.: It’s opening night for this offbeat play ($10, $8 for senior citizens and students). It’s set in a post-apocalyptic future, in which a group of survivors entertain themselves by piecing together the pop-culture of the past – including “The Simpsons.” It’s at Kent State University-Trumbull campus theater, 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren; 330-675-8887.

Deaf theater skills workshop

WARREN

Kent State Trumbull’s Diversity in Action Council will present a workshop on Improvisational Techniques for Deaf Theater from 1 to 4 p.m March 23 in the campus’s Student Union (on the first floor of the Classroom/Administration Building). It will be will facilitated by Broadway and television actor Joey Caverly, who is also a stage director.

Using techniques applied in deaf theater, participants will explore improv with sign language. All levels of ASL skill are welcome in this free workshop. No registration is required. For information, go to kent.edu/trumbull.

Upcycled art contest returns

SHARON, PA.

Penn State Shenango’s annual Upcycled Art Contest, which takes place in conjunction with the campus’ Earth Day celebration April 6, is seeking entries. The contest is designed to inspire students from kindergarten to sixth grade to create treasure from “trash.”

The art contest contains two categories: one for small groups, and “Reflection on Reuse,” which requires students to work individually to create a two-dimensional or three-dimensional artwork using material that has been previously used and/or destined for recycling.
