Holy Family School hosted its annual science fair in the Parish Hall on March 26.
All seventh- and eighth-grade students participated in this event. Projects ranged from a potato catapult, a bath bomb study, wind turbines, an electrolyte challenge and more.
Eighth-grade students Patrick Dambrogio and Christopher Philibin tied for Best of Show.
Philibin’s project was titled “Turning Milk Into Plastic.”
“My project was fun to turn milk into plastic and I actually had fun learning some cool stuff about science. It was pretty awesome having real science people judging our projects. I actually was able to answer all their scientific questions,” Philibin said.
Dambrogio’s project was titled “Rusting Out.” It was about what causes corrosion and if the paint can stop it and explained why they paint metal on bridges.
”The science fair was a great learning opportunity. I was able to follow the steps of the scientific method to complete a real life experiment. It was a lot of fun,” Dambrogio said.
The science fair has been offered every year at Holy Family for more than 20 years. The judges for this year’s science fair came from Oh, Wow!, Youngstown State University, Cafaro Corp, and other area businesses.
Middle school science teacher Mary Rossi is proud of all her students for a job well done.
“Congratulations to the students for a successful hands-on science fair. Students followed the scientific method and created amazing projects. One judge even commented, ‘So many students are thinking outside the box,’” Rossi said.
