The Boardman School Fund for Educational Excellence hosted the fourth annual Reverse Raffle fundraiser on March 8 at Avion Banquet Center.

President Edie Davidson explained that 175 people attended the event, which hosted a reverse raffle, Chinese auction and a silent auction.

“We have been so fortunate to have the support of the community when it comes to supporting this fund and our great cause,” Davidson said.

Community members purchased tickets for $50 a piece, which included dinner and drinks.

“We had a wonderful dinner provided by Avion,” Davidson said. “It’s just a fun night with delicious food supporting a good cause.”

The BSFEE is a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

Each year the organization offers grant money to teachers in the Boardman school district to complete unique projects that fit the curriculum.

“This event has allowed us to double the amount that we have in our fund,” Davidson said. “The more money we have in the fund the more we can give back to teachers.”

The foundation awarded its first grant in 2011, and has since been able to award $60,000 to Boardman teachers.

In 2019 the fund awarded seven grants, totalling $8,000.

Teachers used the money to purchase 3D pens, devices that can translate languages in real time for English as a second language students, virtual reality goggles and more.

“We are so grateful for the creativity of our teachers who are so invested in doing everything they can for their students,” Davidson said.

After teachers receive their grant money and incorporate them into their lessons, members of the BSFEE board visit with them to see the projects first hand.

“We are so fortunate for our sponsors, and the support from the community that allows us to continue with this great project,” Davidson said.
