PITTBURGH STEELERS

Ryan Shazier will be on roster in 2019

PITTSBURGH

Ryan Shazier will be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019 as he continues his recovery from a spinal injury.

The team tolled the linebacker’s contract for next season, meaning it will be carried over from 2018. Shazier did not play last season while recuperating from a spinal injury suffered in Cincinnati on Dec. 4, 2017. The deal allows Shazier to continue having medical coverage and gives him another season toward his league pension.

The move keeps Shazier on Pittsburgh’s 90-man roster, though he eventually will be placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

The 26-year-old Shazier spent last season as a de facto coach and scout for Pittsburgh, reviewing film with teammates and mentoring inside linebackers Jon Bostic, Vince Williams and Tyler Matakevich.

MIAMI DOLPHINS

WR Parker signs incentive-laden deal

MIAMI

Former first-round pick DeVante Parker will get another chance to show the Miami Dolphins he’s not a bust.

The unlucky, underachieving receiver signed an incentive-laden, two-year deal Tuesday worth up to $13 million that replaces a $9.4 million fifth-year option on his original contract.

The Dolphins had been expected to rescind the option for 2019 and let Parker become a free agent. But his agent, Jimmy Gould, said Parker loves Miami, wasn’t interested in testing the market, and is eager for a chance to blossom under new Dolphins coach Brian Flores.

The 14th player taken in the 2015 draft, Parker has been plagued by injuries and has scored just nine touchdowns while making 31 starts in four seasons. Last year he had 24 catches for 309 yards and one score while missing five games because of finger and quadriceps issues.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Linebacker Barr agrees to 5-year, $67.5M deal

MINNEAPOLIS

The Minnesota Vikings have kept the heart of their defense intact with a hefty commitment to linebacker Anthony Barr.

For the four-time Pro Bowl pick, a late offer to stay with the only NFL team he’s played for proved too valuable to pass up.

According to a person with direct knowledge of the deal, Barr agreed Tuesday to re-sign with the Vikings on a five-year, $67.5 million contract with $33 million guaranteed and more money available through escalators. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been announced by the Vikings, who had until the beginning of the new league year today to clear the space for Barr’s contract to fit under the salary cap.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA.

Police seized almost $200,000 in connection with a Florida massage parlor where New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was accused of paying for sexual acts, court records released Tuesday show.

Search warrants show Jupiter police found $183,000 in bank safety deposit boxes belonging to two women who authorities say owned the spa and an employee. Officers also froze numerous bank accounts belonging to Orchids of Asia Spa owners Hua Zhang and Lei Wang, but the amounts in those accounts were not released.
