AUCTIONS

Heartland Christian School, 28 Pittsburgh St., Columbiana, will host its 22nd annual benefit auction that will take place at 10 a.m. March 23, in the gymnasium. Doors open at 8:30. There will be live, silent and basket auctions. Jim Kellner will be the auctioneer, and some items included will be vacation and hotel packages; theme park, event and attraction tickets; jewelry; gift cards; theater passes; and more. The Guatemala Missions team will host breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., in the school’s home economics room, to raise funds for its upcoming trip. Mothers of the Crucifix Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica will host a bingo and card party at 3 p.m. March 24 in the social hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel Ave., Youngstown. Cost is $6, and includes lunch. There will be door prizes and a pot-of-gold and basket auctions.

DANCES

Fraternal Order of Eagles - Aerie 2172, 26 W. Wilson Ave., Girard, will host the Roadwork Band from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $5 at the door, and food will be available. There will be a 50-50 and a cash bar.

Buster’s Brigade and Falcon Animal Rescue will host a beer and wine taste from 4 to 7 p.m. March 24 at the Magic Tree in Boardman.

Niles Historical Society will host its annual spring banquet and fundraiser at 6 p.m. April 25 at Ciminero’s Banquet Centre, 123 N. Main St., Niles. Springfield Library Capital Campaign Committee will host a fundraiser, “Book Review to Inspire You & A Tasty Lunch, Too,” at 1 p.m. March 24 at the Poland Library Meeting Room, 311 S. Main St. Guest speaker will be Sarah Dickey, author of “Ode to Love,” who will discuss her new book, “Sweetly Seeking: Living an Inspired Life,” which will be released in April. There will be a fashion show, light lunch, basket raffle and 50-50 raffle. Cost is $25 per person, and reservations are required by Monday. Friends of the Columbiana Public Library will have a spring book sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 23. Bag of books for $3 begins at 4 p.m. Pre-sale will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 22. Cost is $3 per individual or $5 per family. Paperback books cost 25 cents each; hardback books are 50 cents each; and audio visual materials cost $1 per item.

Helping Hands Closet at the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, carries nearly new and new clothes for the entire family. March specials are each item will be $1 for winter clearance, excluding purple ticket items. Spring items are now in. Winter purses, jewelry and party and prom dresses are 50 percent off. Shoes are not on sale. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays.

Lepper Library in Lisbon will host the Steel Valley Ukers, organized by Richard Wyant, at 1 p.m. Saturday . The group will conduct an introductory ukulele workshop for beginners of all ages. Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2305 S. Canfield-Niles Road, will host an Easter Alive children’s program at 11 a.m. April 13. There will be two live miniature monkeys in a petting area and a puppet skit starring “Humble” the donkey and “Gerbert.” A raffle will take place, and there will be games, crafts and snacks for the children. Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, 2067 Evergreen Road, will offer a one-day presentation with Dr. Robert Wicks, noted author and lecturer, titled “Riding the Dragon: Strengthening Your Inner Life in Challenging Times,” from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 23. Dr. Wicks will offer three sessions within the day. Topics will include maintaining a sense of perspective, chronic and acute secondary stress, developing a self-care protocol, how to maintain balance and courage and advice on how to develop a strong “rule of prayer” as well as a framework of reflection and mindfulness. Brookfield Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Committee is sponsoring a trip to Rivers Casino Pittsburgh on March 30. The cost is $25 per person, which includes a $20 game voucher, $5 food voucher, and transportation. Proceeds from the trip benefit the Brookfield Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. A chartered bus will leave Brookfield High School at 9:15 a.m. and will depart the casino at 5:30 p.m. Participants must be 21 years or older and present valid, state-issued photo identification. To reserve a spot, an RSVP slip must be filled out and returned by March 20. The slips can be found at the bottom of the trip’s flyer, which is posted on the Brookfield Local Schools’ website and Facebook page.

Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, will host a trip to Rivers Casino Pittsburgh on Wednesday. The bus will leave the Senior Center at 8:30 a.m. for Youngstown Skate to meet the rest of the group at 9 a.m. (Use the side parking lot only). Bingo and raffle drawings will take place en route and there will be a $20 free slot play incentive and a $5 food coupon upon arrival. The bus will depart for home at 4 p.m. Cost is $25 for Senior Center members and $30 for guests. Payment is due at registration to reserve a seat.

Trumbull County Travel Club will sponsor a motor coach mini vacation to Holland, Mich., from May 7 to 9. Holland, located on Lake Macatawa, plants millions of blooming tulips which will greet members in this town named the “Best Small Town Festival” in the USA. Reflecting on the area’s Dutch heritage, Windmill Island is on the agenda as well as the DeKlomp Wooden Shoe & Delft Factory tour. There will be time to experience traditional Klompen, photograph the Big Red Lighthouse and sit in comfortable seats for the Volksparade. Two breakfasts and two dinners are included along with the Fiddle Fire Show and the Dazzle Dinner Theater. The Travel Club is open to any person who wishes to travel and make new friends. There are no fees to join. The club has been together since 2000 and consists of people over 21. Members meet twice a year at area sites to discuss upcoming trips. All trips leave from one site and use motor coaches, trains, air and will sometimes incorporate cruising.
