St. Patrick’s week has arrived, and the folks at Wallethub have compiled a by-the-numbers look at the holiday. Here’s a sampling:

v $5.6 billion: Amount of money that will spent nationwide on the celebration.

v 1962: The first year the Chicago River was dyed green for the big day.

v 40 pounds: That’s how much dye is used to turn the Chicago River green.

v 13 million: Pints of Guinness that will be consumed on St. Patrick’s Day.

v 70 percent: That’s how much cabbage shipments increase during St. Patrick’s week.

“American Gods” (8 p.m., Starz): Season two of the modern fantasy series based on the Neil Gaiman stories premieres.

“The Walking Dead” (9 p.m., AMC): Daryl’s daring rescue mission forces Alpha to unleash a group of her own to retrieve what belongs to her, even if the price is paid in blood. Meanwhile, the Kingdom’s plans to reunite the communities is put in jeopardy.

Panel to discuss women in industry

YOUNGSTOWN

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society will present a panel of speakers at 7 p.m. Tuesday, who will explore women’s relationships to industrial and mill work from a historical perspective.

The event, which is free to the public, will be in the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown.

The panelists will discuss women’s roles, from their initial support of male workers, to their lives as the spouses of mill workers and finally as women working in the mills.

Presenting speakers include Jacqueline Marino, author and associate professor of journalism at Kent State University; Eliese Colette Goldbach, noted author and former steel mill worker; Mary E. Triece, author and professor of communication at the University of Akron; and Jennifer Vanderpool, renowned artist whose multi-venue exhibition “Untold Stories: The Forgotten Underclass in Rust Belt Urban Renewal” is on display at The Tyler History Center and the University of Akron.

Group to present beer, wine tasting

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Area Grocers Association will host its 14th annual Beer and Wine Tasting from 6 to 9 p.m. March 23 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.

Tickets are $50 per person or $400 for a table of eight.

The event will feature wine, microbrews and gourmet food, as well as networking and fellowship opportunities.

Proceeds will benefit the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown HIV/AIDS Ministry and the Prince of Peace Center in Farrell, Pa.
