Stained Glass Concert planned for Sunday

The public is invited to join the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra for a Stained Glass Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick Church, 357 N. Main St. The event will feature a selection of classical and popular music. The Stained Glass Concert Series is a part of the Youngstown Symphony Society’s community outreach program, which seeks to strengthen ties between the community and the orchestra through the performance of informal concerts that introduce the orchestra and the art form. Free admission. Participants are asked to dress casually.

Craft class at library

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host its Gettin’ Crafty Class for adults at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The craft will be a handmade recipe book. All materials will be provided. Library to host Wellness Wednesday

The Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host Dr. Lorie Lippiatt, local optometrist, guest speaker at the Wellness Wednesday Program, that will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The topic will be “Blue Light and Digital Eye Strain.”

Tyler History Center to host presentation

YOUNGSTOWN

The Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., will host a presentation at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in recognition of Women’s History month. A group of panelists will discuss women’s roles from their initial support of male workers, to their lives as the spouses of mill workers, and finally as women working in the mills. Speakers will include Jacqueline Marino, author and associate professor of journalism at Kent State University; Eliese Colette Goldbach, author and former steel mill worker; Mary E. Triece, author and professor in the school of communication at The University of Akron; and Jennifer Vanderpool, artist who has an exhibition, “Untold Stories: The Forgotten Underclass in Rust Belt Urban Renewal,” which is on display at The Tyler History Center and The University of Akron. Paws Town accepting memberships

BOARDMAN

One year memberships to Paws Town at Boardman Park are available for 2019-20. Memberships will be valid from date of purchase through March 31, 2020. Memberships for Boardman residents cost $40 for one dog and $10 for each additional dog. Non-Boardman resident fee will be $65 for one dog and $10 for each additional dog. Membership packets can be picked up at the Boardman Park office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, in the outdoor literature boxes at the Dog Park or online at boardmanpark.com.

One day passes are available for $5. The dog’s shot records on the veterinarian’s letterhead, rabies and county tag numbers must be brought. Anyone interested in purchasing a tree to be planted in Paws Town, in honor or in memory of a dog can pick up forms at the park office. For information, call 330-726-8105.

Kindergarten Kick-off set for March 14

Austintown Elementary School, 245 Idaho Road-Lynn Kirk Loop, will host Kindergarten Kick-off at 6 p.m. Thursday. Students and parents will have the opportunity to tour kindergarten classrooms, meet staff members and learn about transitioning smoothly from home or preschool to kindergarten.

Information about staggered start, summer programs as well as tips to assist your child before and during kindergarten will be discussed. Children who are 5 years-old on or before Aug. 1 will be eligible for kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year.

West Side Cats needs volunteers

West Side Cats, a nonprofit, no-kill cat rescue, is looking for volunteers to help care for rescue cats and kittens.
