Evening with the Easter Bunny

Boardman Park will present an evening with the Easter Bunny from 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 10 and 11. Tickets will go on sale at the park office from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting March 11. Tickets may also be obtained by calling the park office at 330-726-8105 to pay by credit card, or online at www.boardmanpark.com. Tickets are $7 for Boardman residents and $9 for non-residents. Children 2 and under are free. The evening includes dinner, arts and crafts and a family photo with the Easter Bunny.

Paws Town at Boardman Park

Enjoy the benefits of the outdoors by joining the Marge Hartman’s Paws Town Dog Park at Boardman Park. The 3.25-acre fenced in dog park has separate fenced in areas for large and small dogs, water fountains, a dog wash station, benches, small shade trees and dog waste bags. One year memberships to Paws Town are available for 2019-20 and will be valid from date of purchase through March 31, 2020. Membership costs for Boardman residents are $40 for one dog and $10 for each additional dog. Non-Boardman resident fees are $65 for one dog and $10 for each additional dog. Membership packets may be picked up at the Boardman park office from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the outdoor literature boxes at the dog park or online at boardmanpark.com. One day passes are also available for $5. Bring your dog’s shot records on veterinarian letter head, rabies and county tag numbers. Cardinal Mooney High School announces 16th annual “Celebrate Mooney” auction

Cardinal Mooney High School has set the date for its 16th annual fundraising auction as April 13. The largest fundraising event of the year will take place at the school, located at 2545 Erie St, Youngstown, between 5:30 and 11 p.m. Cocktails and silent auction to begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. This year’s honorary chairwoman is CMHS teacher, mentor and Cardinals sports enthusiast, Nancy Shugart. YWCA accepting entries for 37th annual Women’s Art Exhibition

YWCA Mahoning Valley is accepting entries for its 37th Annual Women Artists: A Celebration! Art Show to take place June 28 through July 26 at YWCA’s downtown Youngstown office, located at 25 W. Rayen Ave. The art exhibition showcases work by local, regional and national women artists. The juried show features all media, including paintings, drawings, photographs, fiber art, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, videography and metal work. Returning for a second time is a juried show for young women ages 14-17 from Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The show will feature seventeen works selected by jurors from the YWCA Women Artists Committee and will run in conjunction with the Women Artists show. Two-dimensional work is eligible for the 17 Under 17 show. Entry forms for both shows are available at YWCA’s offices in Youngstown and Warren and on the YWCA’s website at ywcamahoningvalley.org/women-artists. Entries are due by April 8. Priscilla Roggenkamp, Associate Professor of Art at Ashland University, will serve as the juror for the 2019 show. A ticketed Preview Party will take place on June 28 from 6-9 p.m. at the YWCA. Healthy eating program set for March 12

Healthy Eating for You, a free program sponsored by Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley and led by a registered dietitian, will address portion size, reading and understanding nutrition labels, and learning to eat mindfully. This program takes place from 2-4 p.m. on March 12 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, located at 8401 Market St. To register, call 330-480-3070. Cleveland rent-to-own expert set to headline Youngstown’s MVREIA March meeting

Cleveland rent-to-own expert Matt Reed is poised to share his blueprint for success with investors. The event, themed “Getting Rid of Rental Property Headaches,” will take place on March 11 at Boardman Park’s Lariccia Family Community Center from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Reed, who boasts a large portfolio of rental properties will be addressing investors on ‘How to Explode Profits with Rent 2 Own Solution.’ Reed’s presentation will outline to investors how to manage numerous properties, how the rent-to-own solution can reduce property maintenance expenses, how to put rental homes income on autopilot, how to get tenants to pay on time, how to make it a “win-win” for investors and families with the dream of home ownership and more. Reed’s featured presentation will focus on how to “Explode Your Profits with Lease Options.” This event is free for REIA members and for first time guests. Friendly Squares March square dance

The Friendly Squares will host their monthly square dance on March 9 from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Niles SCOPE Center, located at 14 E. State St. in Niles. Gene Hammond will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will be cuing line dances. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual and light refreshments will be served. All Inclusive Egg Hunt offered on April 7

Rulli Bros. Market, located at 8025 South Ave. in Boardman, will be the location for the second annual All Inclusive Egg Hunt. The egg hunt will take place on April 7, beginning at 2 p.m. The egg hunt is open to children in the Mahoning County, and there will be an alternative egg hunt for children with special needs inside of the store. ABWA chapter to meet

The Mill Creek Chapter of ABWA (American Business Women’s Association) will host its March 12 meeting at Johnny’s Restaurant in Boardman. Networking will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The menu for the evening includes Italian roasted chicken, stuffed shells, sausage and peppers, Italian roasted potatoes, buttered green beans, tossed salad, fresh baked bread, peppers in oil, dessert, coffee, tea and soft drinks. The cost is $22 per person and reservations may be made by calling Lynne Mullins at 330-788-9221 by March 3. The chapter will announce its 2019 Woman of the Year at this March meeting. The entertainment for the evening will be the well-known Youngstown musical duo, Mary Jo Maluso and Rick Blackson of Beyond Broadway Entertainment. The public is welcome.

All About Trees workshop to take place at Boardman Park

Dan Slagle, Executive Director of Boardman Park, will be hosting a workshop, “All About Trees,” on March 16 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the St. James Meeting House in Boardman Park. Topics will include the benefits of trees, purchasing the correct tree for the spot you want to plant it in and how to plant and maintain trees. Slagle has more than 40 years of experience in planting, caring and maintaining trees. The workshop is free, but participants are asked to register by calling the park office at 330-726-8105. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Society for Human Resource Management to meet

The Western Reserve Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management will have a meeting on March 12 beginning with a 11:30 a.m. unitl 12 p.m. registration and lunch, and a 12-1 p.m. presentation at Leo’s Restaurant, located at 7042 East Market Street in Warren. The program will be “Legal Updates.” This presentation will review legal updates to assist the organization in remaining in compliance. Chapter membership has grown to more than 150 members representing area employers in numerous industries.

Kindergarten readiness stations

The library’s kindergarten readiness stations are in every library branch and feature fun activities for you and your preschool child to complete together. For the month of March, stations focus on mathematics. Early math skills include counting, recognizing numerals, sorting and classifying objects, and creating patterns. Research shows that early math skills are important predictors of later achievement in math and reading. Working on these skills now will help your child be ready to learn when they get to school. Stop by any branch to visit a kindergarten readiness station and help your child build these important skills.

Baby Brilliant: Bonding with Babies and Books

Join the Boardman library at 10 a.m. every Tuesday in March for 20 minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize. This event is for caregivers and their little ones who are 6-23 months.

Playtime at the library

Visit the Boardman library at 10 a.m. on March 20, to read a story and have fun with developmentally appropriate games and activities that you can do with your child to help him or her get ready for kindergarten. Activities will vary at each program. This program is for children ages 2-6.

Free tax preparation and electronic filing sites

Free tax preparation is available at the Boardman library, located at 7680 Glenwood Ave., from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from March 5 through April 10. Visit the Boardman library at 10 a.m. on March 9, to enjoy creating Lego designs. Legos will be provided by the library. The program is for children ages 6 and up.

Reader’s choice book club

Visit the Boardman library at 7 p.m. on March 11 to discuss “Best Boy” by Eli Gottlieb, share your favorite books and find out what new ones are being published. April’s book, “Educated: a Memoir” by Tara Westover, will be previewed. This program is for adults.

Reading tutors

Trained members from Ohio Reading Corps will be available for free reading tutoring for students in kindergarten through third grade from 4-6 p.m. on March 13. Drop by for one-on-one or small group reading tutoring. Registration is not required.

Celebrate Youth Art Month

Celebrate Youth Art Month with stories and a painted clay pot craft from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on March 14 at the Boardman library. Attendees should wear old clothes or a paint smock. Children ages 3-8 are invited with a parent to this one-hour program.

Preserving family heirlooms

Visit the Boardman library at 6:30 p.m. on March 14, to learn about preservation and conservation issues relevant to the genealogist. Whether the information is in the form of original documents and artifacts, or as generated research findings, this seminar will cover basic care, storage and handling techniques; repairing and reformatting; technology migration; disaster response and legacy planning. Blood drive

There will be a blood drive by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross at the Boardman library on March 16 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. (Red Cross bus will be in parking lot accepting donations). Adult fans of young adult literature can visit the Boardman library at 6:30 p.m. on March 18, to talk about why they like YA. This month, “Unwind,” by Neal Shusterman will be discussed. This program is for adults.

Apprentice’s Inn

Join the Boardman library’s beginners Dungeons and Dragons club and take part in our adventure at 6:30 p.m. on March 27. Go on dangerous quests with daring fights and hopefully you roll a D20 to save the day. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. This program is for teens in grades 7-12.

Retired teachers association to meet on March 13

The Mahoning Retired Teachers Association will meet on March 13 at Drake’s Landing Banquet Center, located at 2177 W. Western Reserve Road in Canfield. The social hour will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch at 11:45 a.m., followed by the meeting and program. Susan Harris will preside. Sara Churchill, Digital Services Librarian from the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, will discuss library online services. The community service project will be donations to Mahoning County library’s summer literacy program. Grilled chicken salad or the buffet, which will feature parmesan crusted cod and pasta with meatballs, will be served. All area educators are invited to attend. If you or someone you love has a gambling addiction, Gamblers Anonymous may be able to help. A meeting of Gamblers Anonymous will take place on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman. Another G.A. meeting will take place on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (Cornersburg). There is no charge for the meetings, although collections are taken up at each meeting to provide for coffee, sugar and creamer, treats and free literature. The average contribution given by members at most meetings is $2. Meetings last about one-and-a-half hours and are both closed meetings, or, you must have suffered from a gambling addiction to attend. The Youngstown-area G.A. groups are friendly and welcoming and established members love to see new members join the fold. They are more than happy to help suffering gamblers and are knowledgeable about how to stay clean from this dreadful disease.

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 15. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Legacy Dog Rescue hosting reverse raffle

Legacy Dog Rescue is hosting its third annual Reverse Raffle on April 6 at the Avion on the Water in Canfield. A total of 125 tickets will be sold. The cost is $65 per ticket, which includes two dinners and one chance to win the grand prize of $1,500.
