Youngstown State’s basketball programs netted a combined seven All-Horizon selections, the League announced on Tuesday.

Women’s basketball forward Mary Dunn is the most decorated of the bunch, earning the Sixth Player of the Year and first-team All-League honors. She is the second YSU women’s basketball player to be named Sixth Player of the Year. Boardman graduate Monica TouVelle won it during the 2013-14 season.

Forward Sarah Cash and guard Chelsea Olson each got second-team honors. On the men’s side, freshman Darius Quisenberry was a second-team All-League selection and made the All-Freshman team. Sophomore guard Garrett Covington made the All-Defensive team, along with Ursuline graduate Mark Hughes, who is a senior at Wright State.

Dunn came off the bench in 22 of 29 games for YSU (21-8, 13-5 HL), but led the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game, which makes her the fifth-leading scorer in the league.

She also ranks No. 6 in the league in blocks per game. In Horizon League play, she averaged 14.3 points per game while shooting 61.8 percent.

Cash, a Lordstown native, is tied with Alison Smolinski as the second-leading scorer at 13 points per game. She is second in the League in field-goal percentage at 58 percent. She will finish her time at YSU with the career lead in games played and free-throw percentage.

Olson’s all-around game has her on the Horizon League’s lists, averaging 10.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and a League-best 4.8 assists per game.

The sophomore who switched from forward to point guard ranks in the top six in the conference in assists, free-throw percentage, rebounding, 3-pointers per game, 3-point field-goal percentage, blocks, assist-to-turnover ratio and minutes. On the national level, she is the only underclassman in the country averaging at least 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Quisenberry lost out to Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis — the nation’s third-leading scorer with 26 points per game — for Freshman of the Year, but still earned recognition for his efforts.

He was a three-time Horizon League freshman of the week. He led the Penguins in scoring (13.9), assists (3.7 ) and steals (1.3 ). He also set the YSU freshman 3-pointers record with 51 and the YSU Division I freshman scoring record with 430.

Covington was often tasked with guarding the opponent’s top scorer night after night, averaging 1.13 steals and 2.5 defensive rebounds.
