Orchestra contest for Trumbull students

WARREN
The Warren Philharmonic Orchestra is seeking entries for its annual Art in Music Contest for Trumbull County third through eighth grade students.
This year, the contestants must create artwork that expresses their feelings and visual interpretation of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade, 1001 Tales of Arabian Nights,” which will be performed at the WPO’s spring concert next month.
Teachers have already been provided with contest information, and recordings of “Scheherazade” excerpts, along with notes from WPO conductor Susan Davenny Wyner that provide background and elicit critical thinking about the instruments, performers and the composer.
Home-schooled students in Trumbull County are also welcome to participate.
Materials and contest rules are also available at warrenphilharmonic.org. The contest in now in its 11th year, and photos of artwork from past years can be found on the website.
There is no cost to participate in the contest. All entries become the property of the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra and must be submitted to the orchestra office, 174 N. Park Ave., Suite 9, downtown Warren, by 4 p.m. March 25.
Art in Music Contest winners will be introduced and their awards will be presented at the orchestra’s April 7 concert, which starts at 3 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. NW.
