The Austintown library hosted its monthly Art with Andrea event on Feb. 11.
Librarian and artist Andrea Zupcsan ran the event, where she instructed community members on painting a silhouetted landscape.
Zupcsan, who attended Youngstown State University as an art minor, said that she gets many of her ideas from Pinterest, but often mixes and matches them.
She also looks at similar events, like Sip and Paint, which is offered at other library’s nationally, for inspiration.
“The hard part is making it for everyone,” Zupscan said. “I do this kind of thing all the time at home, it’s my way of relaxing.”
This month, Zupscan taught community members how to create a gradient, going from yellow to red which created a sunset back ground.
Community members then painted trees in black, and a sun in white, which cemented the silhouetted look.
“Art is about repetition,” Zupscan said. “Sometimes you do the same thing three times and its not ‘til the third time that you like it.”
Along with teaching the class, Zupscan painted an example at home for community members to look at as they work.
“Having an example helps because they see why they are making certain choices,” she said. “But it should not be something that they try to replicate exactly.”
Zupscan said that when ever she teaches the class, she hopes each participant puts their on unique touch on the art.
“There are no two painting that are the same, and there shouldn’t be. That’s the cool thing about art,” she said.
All supplies, including paints and canvases, were supplied by the library.
