The Boardman library hosted Michael Roy Baldridge for a unique origami magic show on June 18.

More than 100 children and their families gathered at the library to watch Baldridge perform.

“Origami is just basic geometry,” he said. “But it’s also art, and magic.”

During the performance, Baldridge demonstrated his paper folding skills by showcasing a number of intricate origami pieces.

While he folded Baldridge gave facts about the history of origami mixed with humor.

He discussed how origami originate in Japan, with the name meaning literally “to fold paper.”

He talked about the simple rules of origami, that you can’t cut or glue the paper in creation of your art.

“It takes a single sheet of square paper and turning it into something else,” Baldridge said.

Baldridge also called up volunteers for a game show style competition.

Volunteers held up framed paper creased from origami creations, and contestants had to guess which crease was for which design.

Baldridge is a performer based out of Kent. He is a regular performer for the library’s annual summer reading program.
