Boardman seventh- and eighth-grade orchestra students performed on May 17 at the Boardman High School Center for Performing Arts.

Students from each of Boardman’s elementary schools attended the private performance.

“It’s a nice way for them to see what they can be a part of in the future,” said director Tim Tuite.

Tuite said that 152 Junior High School students performed during the event.

“It’s a tradition we have had for a long time here at Boardman,” Tuite said.

He explained that the tradition was passed down to him 13 years before when he started working at the school.

Tuite said the students do two shows a year, ending with this annual performance.

“They work really hard, and their skills grow so much over the years, but too often they don’t get the recognition for it,” Tuite said.

He said that the hard work of the junior high students is one of the many things that makes the Boardman High School band program so good.
