Youngstown’s Knightline Embroidery did exactly what manager Tom Otto asked of his players Thursday in the first round of the Bob Cene Memorial Tournament.

They just didn’t think that Mother Nature and the rain she dumped on Cene Park would be the obstacle that they would need to overcome on the initial day of action.

Other games affected included Creekside Fitness versus Lake Area Dodgers and Prospects versus Stark County Terriers.

All six games, along with the three 8 p.m. contests, are rescheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Knightline pitcher Kris Scandy had no trouble with Armoloy, allowing just one single to the seven batters that he faced while striking out the side in the second frame.

Two errors and a run-scoring single by Ken Misik staked Knightline to the early 2-0 lead after one inning, doubling their lead in the second on a double by Zach Yaskulka before the rains arrived.

Creekside Fitness had the visiting Lakes Area Dodgers (Mich.) on its heels before the weather rolled in. The Ohio team led 5-0 in the top of the second inning when play stopped.

“It looked like we were on our way to the mercy rule,” Creekside outfielder Dylan Gurski said.

Creekside piled up five runs on five hits, forcing Lakes Area to go through three pitchers. Two of the three pitchers the Dodgers used were not identified on the lineup card and first names were not provided.

Gurski, a Boardman graduate, kicked off the scoring with a triple to center field that scored Zachary Hansen in the top of the first, chasing Lakes Area’s starting pitcher. He came home after Dan Beistel flew out. Butler Pa.’s Grant Metzger came home via a fielder’s choice. Harrison Pontoli’s singled home Kyle Weitzel a with a hit that struck the Dodger’s first reliever in the ribs, leaving him too injured to continue. Nathan Stutz followed up with another RBI single.

Crestview’s Tyler Hurd hit a batter and gave up one hit during an inning of work.

Today’s schedule will remain the same.
