Fully-collapsible lawn chairs now OK at new amphitheater

As the inaugural concert season continues at the new Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre, the policy regarding chairs for the lawn sections has been changed.

Effective immediately, fully collapsible single-person lawn chairs with a seat no higher than 16 inches off the ground and a back no higher than 36 inches total height – as shown in the photo at right k – are permitted for all events, including concerts by national acts.

This includes Friday’s concert by rock band Chicago.

It is important to note that the bags or cases that these chairs come in will not be permitted into the facility.

All plastic and wooden chairs are still prohibited, as are folding chairs of any other style.

Previously, lawn chairs with a seat height of more than 9 inches were prohibited.

Rental chairs will remain available at all events for $5.

Tickets for VIP Lawn seats include a chair with the cost of the ticket.

Blankets remain permissible for all events.

Latino Food Festival will be Saturday at the OCCHA hall

YOUNGSTOWN

The eighth annual Latino Food Festival, sponsored by OCCHA (Hispanic American Civic and Cultural Organization) will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the organization’s Social Hall, 3660 Shirley Road.

Guest can sample the Hispanic cuisine made by Valley cooks and organizations, including desserts and beverages.

Tickets are $15 ($12 in advance at the OCCHA hall) and include the following food items of your choice: two entrees, two sides, one salad and one dessert.

Countries represented will be Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico and Spain.

Complementing the food will be the culture of these countries, with music by DJ Jancarlos Lebron. Parking is free. For information, call 330-781-1808.

Dark X Fest horror and sci-fi convention

Dark X Fest horror, science fiction, fantasy and pop culture convention will take place 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Norwood Inn and Suites, 2265 Dean Memorial Parkway. Admission is $15 ($25 for a weekend pass).

Dark X Fest is the summer version of Dark Xmas, which is entring its 16th year.

It will feature an appearance ever by Alyssa Levine, who plays Zelda in the new version of Stephen King’s “Pet Sematary;” The Texas Chainsaw 45th anniversary movie franchise reunion with Dan Yeager, who played Leatherface in 2013’s “Texas Chainsaw 3D;” the new Pinhead from 2018’s “Hellraiser Judgement;” and actors from “The Walking Dead.”

The event will include a mini museum of props from the “Texas Chainsaw 2” movie; and autographs from celebrity guests, directors, illustrators and others are available upon request (fees vary). Celebrities and movie directors will take part in panels to discuss their careers and past, present and future projects. An Atari gaming station will be available.
