De Oleo’s blast lifts Scrappers to victory

GRANVILLE, W. VA.

Henderson De Oleo’s three-run homer helped the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeat the West Virginia Black Bears, 5-4, on Thursday at Monongalia County Ballpark.

Jose Oca (1-0) earned the victory in relief of starter Liam Jenkins. In two innings of work, Oca allowed two unearned runs on two hits. He walked two and struck out one.

Jenkins pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits.

Tim Herrin earned his third save with two innings of relief.

The Scrappers (5-2) trailed 2-0 after four innings. Jared Triolo hit RBI singles in the first and third innings for the Black Bears (3-4).

In the fifth inning, George Valera scored on Michael Cooper’s double. After Bryan Lavastida walked, De Oleo homered for a 4-2 lead.

An inning later, Raynel Delgado raced home when Lavastida beat out an infield single for a 5-2 lead.
