Women’s art show plans preview party

The YWCA Mahoning Valley’s “Women Artists: A Celebration!” juried art exhibit will open with a preview party for artists and patrons from 6 to 9 p.m. June 28 at the YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave. The event will feature music by Ed Madej, a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres and an art marketplace where small works will be available for purchase. More than $1,500 in prize money will be awarded to artists at the party.
Ticket prices range from $40 general admission to $250 for patrons and can be purchased at ywcamahoningvalley.org/women-artists or by contacting YWCA at 330-746-6361 ext. 109.
The 2019 exhibition will feature more than 150 pieces from local, regional and national women artists, and showcases all manner of artwork, including paintings, pastels, 3D works, fiber arts, ceramics and jewelry. Pieces are available for sale. The 37th annual show was judged by Priscilla Roggenkamp, art professor at Ashland University.
Returning for a second year is a 17 Under 17 show, featuring 2-dimensional works from local young women artists under the age of 18. The 17 Under 17 Show was judged by Suzanne Anzellotti-Ray.
The exhibition will be free for public viewing from June 29 through July 26, Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
Switchfoot to play Goodyear Theater

Grammy Award-winning rock band Switchfoot will come to the Goodyear Theater on Oct. 12.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will include two sets, the first a stripped-down acoustic set with stories woven throughout, followed by a full-blown rock show.

Shimabukuro, Stanley at Kent Stage

The Kent Stage has announced three new shows: ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro on Aug. 21; An Acoustic Evening with Michael Stanley on Sept. 7; and Iris DeMent on Sept 21.
