Mercy Health to offer seminar on knee pain

Mercy Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine will offer a seminar intended to help those living with hip and knee pain from 5 to 7 p.m. at Howland Medical Center, 1932 Niles-Cortland Road. Physicians, physical therapists and orthopedic navigators will be on hand to answer questions and provide options for the treatment and management of common hip and knee pain.

Italian Fest seeks contestants

The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest is seeking contestants for the Little King and Queen and Little Prince and Princess Pageants that will take place at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 4 on the main stage downtown. The event is culture-based, and children must be of Italian descent. Little prince and princess are for age 4 and 5 and little king and queen are for age 6 and 7. Contestants also are being sought for the Miss Italian category, age 14 to 19, and Jr. Miss category, age 13 to 18, that will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2 on the main stage. Library to host art classes

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a figure-drawing class for adults from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and June 30, in the Quaker Room. W. Dan Dinsio will be the instructor. Learn Google, Gmail

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., is providing a series of classes to help adults learn to use the many Google tools readily available to help streamline areas of computer use. The third class in the series is, “Gmail” and will take place in the library’s Quaker Room from 4 to 5 p.m. June 25. Technology instructor Kathy Bennett will show attendees the steps needed to create a Gmail account, create and send email messages and more. If possible, bring a device to practice on during class. The class is provided through a Guiding Ohio Online grant made by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Ohio.

Meet-and greet set for June 26

Trumbull County Children Services will host a caregiver meet and greet at 5:30 p.m. June 26 at 2282 Reeves Road NE. Trumbull County residents interested in becoming a foster caregiver also are invited to attend the training session, “Foster Care Rules and Policies,” at 6. Complimentary snacks will be provided.

Autism Society receives grant

YOUNGSTOWN

The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Kennedy Family Fund of The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley to support its fifth annual Camp F.R.I.E.N.D.: Finding Rewards In Every New Day. This is an inclusive day camp for children, teens and young adult students with autism and their friends. Camp will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 15 through 19 and Aug. 12 through 16, each day at the YMCA, 17 N. Champion St.

Cost is $150 per student per week and financial scholarships are available. Forms are available at www.autismmv.org/campfriend or email camp@autismmv.org. Donations are being acepted.

A lesson on roses

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will offer a lesson in growing roses at 6:30 p.m. June 26. Participants will learn what roses want, need, in which places they grow best, what ‘bugs’ them and more during this program presented by Marilyn McKinley, OSU master gardener, certified Ohio volunteer naturalist and volunteer pollinator specialist.
