Ladies association announces scholarship awardees

The First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association of Beachwood recently announced the 240 scholarships to be awarded nationwide.

Bernadette Demechko, president of the FCSLA Youngstown District, sent invitations to the district winners who will be guests Aug. 18 at the Park Inn by Radisson in West Middlesex, Pa.

The Youngstown District winners at the graduate level ($1,750) are Katie Callahan, Francesco DeMayo, Lauren Getz and Mark Schuler. College level winners ($1,250) are Bridget Bobovnyik, Brooke Chandler, Taylor DeProfio, Meganne Evans, Marissa Gordon, Jenna Kish, Nicole Malkovitz, Mila Medvec, Kenneth Misik, Justin Pelic, Hannah Schwager, Courtney Smith and Autumn Torday.

Anthony Leombruno and Anastacia Viau won for Catholic High School ($1,000), and Anna Brooke, Vincent Pezzuto and Jack Thomas White won for Catholic Elementary Schools ($750).

Also awarded scholarships ($500) were Anna S. Granchay, Mya Agee, Katherine L, Sedlacko, Ava Melfi and Brooke Merrell.

A new category for scholarships to trade and technical schools ($1,250) will begin in the fall.

The Youngstown District will be sending 27 delegates to the FCSLA convention in Tampa, Fla., in October.

The organization has allotted about $1 million to be distributed to charitable projects to 125 groups that have submitted requests.

The Youngstown District has 10 area organizations that have requested funding.
