Walmart campaign to benefit hospital

Walmart and Sam’s Club are hosting their annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals register campaign to benefit Akron Children’s Hospitals in Akron and Mahoning Valley areas now through July 7. Walmart and Sam’s Club customers can make a $1, $2 or $5 donation at the register when completing a purchase. For a $5 donation, customers will receive a reusable, insulated, zippered tote featuring the Akron Children’s and CMN logos, while supplies last. Since 1987, Walmart has raised more than $1 billion nationally for CMN Hospitals.

Summer Snapshot event set for June 25

The University of Mount Union will host three Summer Snapshot events from 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 25, July 18 and Aug. 7. Participants will have an opportunity to picnic, learn about the university’s academic programs, ask questions and explore the campus. History center to host performance

YOUNGSTOWN

“Got A Date With an Angel—Musical Memories of Idora Park” will be performed at the Tyler History Center, 325 W Federal St., at 6 p.m. Friday. This event features Joseph Rubin and his orchestra playing musical favorites from “The Great American Songbook,” celebrating the performances given at Youngstown’s Idora Park Ballroom during the 1930s. Rubin’s 13-piece big band will feature vocalists Jay “Skinnay” Spencer, Keitha Brown and Matt Tolentino. Specializing in living history concerts, the group brings historic American music and musicians back to the modern-day stage. Rubin is a conductor and historian who is known for recreating popular music of the 1890–1949 era. He is the curator of the Ted Lewis Museum and founder/executive director of the Canton Comic Opera Company. The performance also will feature a dance floor as well as displayed images and artifacts from Idora Park. Roll 2 Recovery

Kyle Kolat, an 11-year-old national champion speed skater from Champion, will skate from northern Bristol Township to Kent State Trumbull campus. He will depart at 8:30 a.m. June 24 and skate 17.6 miles on Mahoning Avenue, ending at Kent State Trumbull campus. He is raising money for Adult and Teen Challenge, a Christian-based drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation treatment center for teens and adult.
