Ruhlman wins first ‘Bickerstaff Cup’ race

Hartford

Brian Ruhlman went down in the record books as the inaugural “Bickerstaff Cup” Series race winner Saturday night at Sharon Speedway. Ruhlman topped a field of 40 Outlaw E-Mods for the $1,200 payday and takes the early points lead for the four-race mini series. After leading much of the feature until losing the lead to Nathon Loney on a restart, Ruhlman returned the favor on a restart with three laps to go in the 25-lap main event.

Brian Ruhlman’s brother, Chad, took the RUSH Sprint Cup victory in the 20-lap feature, while Chad’s son Kevin was third and Brian took fourth. After raining out three times this season at the track and in their last four appearances, the second year division was able to complete their first Sharon event of the season. Chad Ruhlman, the 2018 $5,000 Bonnell’s Rod Shop Weekly Series Champion, out-dueled Brian Woodhall for his second overall win on the circuit of 2019.

Garrett Krummert became the third different RUSH Sportsman Modified winner in as many races in 2019 taking the 20-lap HTMA/Precise Racing Products feature. The 2018 $3,000 Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Weekly Series Champion led the entire distance over Jim Rasey for the $500 victory. The non-stop event was timed in 8:06.863.

Pat Adams led from green-to-checkered in the 10-lap RUSH Sportsman Modified “Wheelman” event for non-winners presented by Ohio Intra Express and C&R Tire. One caution on lap two was all that slowed the 50-year-old Bristolville driver’s run to the $75 victory by 1.857 seconds in his Bristol Disposal/King’s Sanitary Service-sponsored #39.

Warriors’ Durant will practice before Game 5

TORONTO

The Golden State Warriors say Kevin Durant will practice Sunday with hopes of playing in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night.

Durant has not played since straining a calf muscle on May 8. The Warriors trail the Toronto Raptors 3-1 in the title series, and are 6-3 since he got injured.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr says Durant will get some work in against the team’s younger players. The team will assess how Durant feels afterward and it’s unclear if a final determination will be made on his availability for Game 5 before Monday.

Durant was injured during Game 5 of the Warriors’ Western Conference semifinal series against the Houston Rockets.

England beats Scotland to open World Cup

NICE, France

Ellen White got England off to a winning start at the Women’s World Cup, curling in a shot to give the 2015 semifinalists a 2-1 victory against tournament newcomers Scotland.

In a dominant first half, Nikita Parris netted a penalty in the 14th minute before White struck in the 40th on the French Riviera.

But there was no repeat of England’s 6-0 rout of its neighbor at the European Championship two years ago, with Scotland ensuring it was a nervy end for England coach Phil Neville’s side after Claire Emslie pulled one back in the 79th.

But the 20th-ranked Scots couldn’t produce an equalizer against No. 3 England in Group D, which also features Japan and Argentina.
