Dog rescue to host benefit Thursday

Every Dog Matters Rescue will host its “Dancin’ For Dogs Dance Party” on Thursday at Rolling Mills Bar & Grill, 1025 S. State St. The basket raffles begin at 5:30 p.m. and dancing will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Music will be provided by DJ Stephen Barba. Cost is $5, with all proceeds benefiting the rescue. Basket auction and raffle planned

The Voices of The Trumbull Pound Dogs will host a basket auction and raffle from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hartford Hill Winery, 3864 Bushnell Campbell Road. Voices is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to help socialize, advocate, network and raise funds for dogs in need. There will be food, wine, slushes and shopping with vendors. Mark’s Ark program takes place Wednesday

Library to host chess challenge club

SALEM

The Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a Chess Challenge Club from 2 to 4 p.m. June 15 in the adult reading room on the library’s upper level. Beginners and intermediate level players (teens and adults) are invited and the club will meet two Saturdays each month. Chess boards and pieces will be provided. David Fearn will serve as instructor. The club is free and open to the public.
